Software Toolkit Help

Whats in your ToolKit?

I started thinking about this over the weekend. What are the tools I like to use? I had to help a neighbor out. He had gotten a few bits and bytes of spyware on his system and needed some help. So heres a list of what I took.

  • SpyBot Search & Destroy: I think this is definitely one of the better spyware programs.
  • AVG-S: AVG is an awesome company. I use their anti-virus for my personal computer, works great.
  • CCLeaner: Cache Cleaner this is a freebie I got from MajorGeeks.com. Still a little new to methumbs_up
  • HiJackThis!: This is a great tool but use CAUTION since you can do serious damage if you are not careful.

I carry these on my Crucial USB drive. It is only a 256 MB but it works. I also used a mainstay, cmd  MSCONFIG. This was just to help clean some of the autostartup crap he had picked up. I tried REGEDIT but it couldn't be found. (I am still unclear on why that was. He's running XP.) After a few scans, there was this Batty.exe I wasn't sure about. It is a laptop and I wanted to make sure I did not kill his battery program. There was another more serious bot and we got it too.

Last night I checked with him and he says everythings fine. Let me know what you like.
